On Monday 7th October, Charlotte and Bradley went to Cynffig Comprehensive School to run a session for the newly elected School Parliament.
Visiting the school to run this session has become a regular fixture in the Apollo calendar, and every year just gets better!
Charlotte led the session and began by splitting the students into small groups. In these groups, the students were tasked with creating an event or programme to give something back to the community. In their hypothetical scenarios, they could decide to build and run a youth club, arrange a meeting group for the elderly, run a sports centre, or something completely different! The brief was simply to create something that would benefit their local community.
Once the groups had decided what they would implement, they
had to think of 3 strong reasons why their event or programme would benefit the
community, and what they would need to do in order to make it successful.
The groups then presented their ideas to their peers, and every student voted
on the best and most persuasive idea.
Charlotte and Bradley were very impressed with the students and thoroughly enjoyed the morning.
The students were really well behaved and the groups seem to improve year on year! The maturity demonstrated by the students, and the strength of their ideas, was very impressive. We’d like to wish the Student Parliament the best of luck over this academic year!
