Help Apollo and Tracey Raise Money for Velindre!

Last Friday, Tracey Davies, an Ambassador for Velindre Cancer Centre popped into Apollo’s Head Office in Aberkenfig.

Tracey began raising money for Velindre in 2014 and over the last 5 years has immersed herself in fundraising for the charity. Her achievements include a 5 day trek in Patagonia, 400km bike ride in New Zealand and tackling Machu Picchu in Peru. Tracey works full time as a Social Worker so she organises these incredible fundraising events in her spare time.

Velindre Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond, and a new hospital is currently being built for Velindre in Cardiff.

Apollo Teaching Services are keen to support Tracey and Velindre in every way we can. Our first event for 2018 is today (Friday 2 February) as we are taking part in the ‘Wear Red for Wales and Velindre’ campaign. All of our Apollo office staff are wearing something red and have brought in a donation to go towards Velindre – keep an eye out for our photos!

In 2018, Tracey plans to complete the following tasks, all on behalf of Velindre:

  • ·         Newport marathon in April 2018
  • ·         By April 2018 Tracey will have completed 15 skydives
  • ·         Cardiff Triathlon in June 2018
  • ·         Cardiff Half Marathon
  • ·         Cambodia Trek with her daughter-in-law Emily in October 2018

For Tracey, taking part in these events for Velindre is life changing. A lot of the activities are fully booked already, but there are 6 places left on the Cambodia trek, so if you fancy a challenge, please get in touch with Tracey.

If you don’t fancy going on the trek, but would like to donate to Tracey and Emily’s Cambodia fundraising you can do so here.

For those who would like a challenge slightly closer to home, Tracey has also organised 3 Pen y Fan night walks and there are still places left on the August climb. You can find out more information here, and you can book your place here. If you are keen to book, please make sure you read the details for the event in the ‘About’ section.

We’ll keep our blog updated with our fundraising events, and if you’d like to get involved in any way, please get in touch!

If you would like to donate to Velindre directly you can do so here and quote ‘Tracey and Emily’.

We thought we’d make the most of Tracey’s visit and while she was here, we asked her to select the winner of our Facebook Like and Share competition. Congratulations Laura Morgans, you’ve won our fantastic filled hamper! We hope you enjoy all the goodies.
