Top 3 Reasons to go to Job Fairs

Have you ever been to a jobs fair, or thought about going to one? Maybe you went to one in university, or heard about one in your local town. Maybe you know someone whose been to one, but you didn’t think it was for you.

Sometimes job fairs can be overlooked in favour of online job searching, but it’s definitely a good idea not to bypass them completely. Even though an online job search is incredibly valuable, there’s nothing quite like meeting someone face to face.

Today Ryan from Apollo Pontypridd went to the Supporting You event in Caerphilly Job Centre to chat to prospective candidates about the roles Apollo can offer and it got us thinking. In a time of ipads, tablets and high speed internet, are career events and job fairs still worth it?

Here are the top 3 reasons why we think it IS worth going to a jobs fair:

1. You get a better idea of the company ethos.
You can do as much research online as you like, but without meeting a company employee in person, you still can’t get a full picture of what the company is like. At Apollo, we pride ourselves on the personal service we provide, and that stems from our friendly and professional consultants.

2. You get a clear picture of the breadth of opportunities one company can offer you – and that might give you new ideas.
During the course of a conversation you might find that the company you are chatting to have more than just one role that would suit you. Equally, a company you had no interest in might have the perfect role for you! Occasionally we encounter the misconception that Apollo only employ teachers and that isn’t true! We employ teaching assistants, exam invigilators and cover supervisors too, so you don’t need to be a qualified teacher to work for Apollo.

3. You can ask questions.
An online job search is often a one way street. You find information about the company you’re interested in, but you can’t ask the nitty-gritty day to day questions that might be essential to whether or not you end up applying for a role. By meeting someone face to face, you can ask as many questions as you like!

Next time you or someone you know is searching for their next career move, don’t discount job fairs. The chances are they’ll be more fruitful than you expect!

Information about Apollo’s upcoming job fairs and career events can be found on our Facebook page, so give us a like to keep up to date with what we’re doing.
