Angela's End of Term Message

Published on 20/07/2017 11:54:59

Here we are at the end of another academic year, how time flies in education!

We have had an incredibly busy year supporting the schools who trust and use Apollo Teaching for their day to day and long term supply requirements and we work tirelessly with every school to ensure that we source and employ only the best staff who will match our schools exacting standards perfectly!

All of our supply staff are sourced, interviewed and vetted by our award winning office staff prior to being offered employment with Apollo - we take the education of the future generation very seriously, nothing is left to chance.

In Apollo Teaching Services we are confident and highly effective in supporting all staffs continuing professional development (CPD) needs which are bespoke to the individual, no two supply staff are the same, one size does not fit all - our bespoke training opportunities supports our theory and installs excellence in all our staff.

We have eight offices across England and Wales so we can if necessary support staff relocation effortlessly - flexibility and continuity of work is a forte we are proud to promote and something our staff pride us in, you trust us and we appreciate you - a winning formula!

Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy holiday and say a heartfelt thank you for the continuing support and dedication you show to Apollo.  All our offices are open throughout the summer holiday should you need any advice or even if you would just like to pop in and have a cuppa with us.  We all look forward to working with all of you in September.

IR 35

Published on 14/07/2017 11:21:00

Recently we have received a lot of questions relating to IR 35 legislation. Our Finance Director has released the following statement to answer these queries:

IR 35 legislation is a set of tax rules that apply if you work for a client through an intermediary – which can be a limited company or “personal service company”

“The off-payroll (IR35) working rules won’t apply if an agency or similar third party that supplies the worker :

All supply staff placed by Apollo Teaching Services are employed by the Company and are subject to full PAYE and NI regulations via the inhouse operated payroll system.

As a Company, compliance with ALL government legislation is to the forefront of all our thinking and processes. From the moment a prospective employee walks into one of our offices they are made aware that we only operate within the Law and that if they do not meet our high standards and comply, we will not employ them.

News Today

Published on 16/12/2015 14:05:56

A BBC report today announced that the Welsh Assembly’s education committee reported that a lack of professional support might be causing newly qualified teachers to leave the profession. It particularly highlighted supply work.  It stated that 30% of supply teachers around 1,500 in Wales were newly qualified teachers and that the Welsh assembly government is working with councils to improve support given to temporary teaching staff.

At Apollo we believe that ongoing support and training opportunities are an essential part of the package we offer to our teaching staff. A full list of our training programme can be found in the staff login area of this website and we are always open to ideas on how to improve these courses and content.

We work very closely with schools to develop good working partnerships and recognise that this process must  be ongoing in order for us to support our teachers and our client schools.

I hope that you will make the most of the training courses available in the coming months and in addition, if you have any professional concerns remember we are here to support you and your account manager will be happy to talk to you at any time. I am grateful for the outstanding level of commitment shown by Apollo’s teachers and believe that reports like this are excellent as they recognise and acknowledge the work you are doing and how important it is.

Secret Santa 2015

Published on 14/12/2015 09:47:56

The office staff of Apollo Teaching Services saw the poster 'Secret Santa 2015' in our premises last week and sprung into action to help a local family have a magical Christmas! Christmas is a special time of year, but we must not forget that not everyone is fortunate enough to have their families with them, money to buy basic essentials, or a safe place to sleep.  This Christmas, please remember those who are less fortunate than we are, and pop something into the food banks which you can find in most supermarkets - your kind donations go towards helping families in your area have a Christmas to remember.  Merry Christmas to everyone :)

Thank You (1)

Thank you to all staff who participated in a recent survey regarding their preference to be paid through a payroll provider or directly via Apollo Teaching Services.  The feedback that we have received has been immense and the majority consensus is that a high volume of staff would prefer to be paid in house directly via Apollo Teaching Services
Apollo Teaching Services actively promote feedback from all staff and in respect of your wishes; we will be initiating a staged return of the management of staffs' wages back to Apollo Teaching Services over the coming months.  Our finance team will be contacting each member of staff to discuss their expected return date.  It is not a mandatory requirement to be paid via Apollo Teaching Services, any member of staff wishing to be paid via an alternative payroll provider may continue to do so or change from Apollo Teaching Services to a different provider at any time.
Thank you to all staff who works so arduously every month.

Congratulations to all the staff at Apollo’s Newcastle branch, since opening their doors in the summer of 2012 they have gone from strength to strength, below are a few testimonials from supply staff who have registered with the office and how they found the overall experience of working for Apollo.

Mary Whiting - Secondary
“Apollo Teaching Services always provide a very professional but personal service. Staff are extremely friendly, efficient and have always gone the extra miles for me. I love to work for Apollo.”

Kristine Hedge - Primary Teacher
“I have enjoyed my teaching experience since working with Apollo Teaching Services from January 2013. Overall, I have worked in over 25 different schools in a variety of locations, in each age group, from Nursery to Year 6. I have also had the opportunity to work in three schools over a longer period. During this time at Apollo, I have been improving my use of teaching, behaviour and assessment strategies.

I find the staff at Apollo, friendly and helpful, with the arrangement of work and any queries. They provide me details over the phone, text or email.”

Louisa Smith - Primary Teacher
“I worked for Apollo Teaching Services as a supply teacher and teaching assistant for 2 terms and found their service excellent. They really listen to your preferences and try to provide you with work that suits your needs and skills. All of the agents I dealt with were friendly and helpful and made me feel that I was part of a team. Even first thing in the morning when I was called in for emergency work, they were cheerful and positive! Apollo seem to really know their schools and to have a very good relationship with them. I was able to get good feedback from my placements, and happily returned to most of them. The supply work that I did for Apollo has given me great experience and has been an important factor in building up my confidence and my teaching skills. I would – and have – recommended their services to new teachers like myself.”

Michael Davis - Secondary
“I have been very happy with the service I have received from Apollo Teaching Services so far. They are always friendly and I would definitely recommend them to a friend”

Welcome Back!

Published on 17/09/2014 13:37:06

I would like to welcome back all our teachers and education staff to this new academic year.

This is a time when newly qualified teachers will begin their journey into supply teaching and it can be used as a time to impress the schools in which you are placed. This is your opportunity to develop relationships with schools which can turn into permanent placements in the future.  We have welcomed hundreds more teachers and staff onto the books at Apollo and said goodbye to many who have now progressed to long term or permanent employment.

The summer has also been a time for change within Apollo, we have devised a new interactive training programme which will be launched later next month.  We will also be continuing our observations programme where experienced teachers will be monitoring and mentoring our staff.

We have helped many staff this year with advice on their CV’s and helped with application forms for permanent positions, we are never too busy to help with your career development. There are many training modules available and we would actively encourage you to express an interest in them.

I would like to say how honoured I am that you have chosen to work through Apollo Teaching Services and as a former teacher, I know the challenges that can present themselves when supply teaching and the support that you may need. The way you represent Apollo Teaching Services in the schools you visit is impeccable.  I recently read the anonymous feedback forms sent to every school we service throughout the UK and the feedback received on the staff we provide was excellent.  You were congratulated on your professionalism and enthusiasm whilst working in schools.

Thank you to all our teachers, cover supervisors, teaching assistants, caretakers, admin staff and all others who provide a service within our schools.

As a company we will continue to push our brand forward and to build upon the excellent reputation we have within our schools and councils throughout the UK.

Good luck for the new school year.

REC Audited Education has won support from recruiters around the UK with Apollo Teaching Services becoming the first recruitment business in Wales to be awarded the status.

Launched in May 2013, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC)’s Audited Education scheme provides quality assurance of recruitment agencies that supply teaching and non-teaching staff to schools, academies and education providers across England and Wales.

Faith Olding, Company Director of Apollo Teaching Services, said: “This award is the culmination of the hard work the team at Apollo Teaching Services has undertaken over the last few years. In our industry, having rigorous procedures in place to safeguard students and to optimise educational progress is essential in relation to supplying the best service to our schools and ultimately to learners.”

REC Audited Education is an innovative product that was devised with the help of a number of education experts and with the support of the recruitment industry. An advisory panel has been formed to ensure that the standard is a living product that can be adapted to meet the ever changing needs and demands of the education sector.

REC CEO Kevin Green said: “It is fantastic to see how much UK recruiters value REC Audited Education and we look forward to working with our industry and education stakeholders to drive forward best practice and safe-guarding in the education sector in 2014 and beyond. To be awarded the badge, recruitment agencies have to prove they are not just compliant with all necessary legislation and regulations but that they operate the very best practice.”

REC Award

Apollo Teaching Services achieves REC Audited Education status

A Welsh recruitment agency has passed a rigorous inspection by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the professional body for the UK’s recruitment industry, in order to achieve REC Audited Education status.

Apollo Teaching Services of Wales adhere to the highest standards in recruitment and are undertaking all the relevant checks when supplying teachers and non-teaching staff to schools.

The REC scheme provides successful recruiters with an accreditation that is recognised by teaching unions, local authorities and schools. It enables both schools and temporary teachers to feel confident about the quality of the agencies they deal with.

Apollo Teaching Services is the first company in Wales to receive the prestigious Recruitment and Employment Federation Audited Accreditation Award.

The award is the gold standard in the industry and looks in depth at the procedures in place in relation to recruiting and placing educational staff.

In addition to being the first company in Wales to receive this award, Apollo is also the first in the UK to achieve this recognition on the first assessor’s visit.

Faith Olding, Co- Director of Apollo Teaching Services, said, “This award is the culmination of the hard work the team at Apollo Teaching Services has undertaken over the last few years.  In our industry having rigorous procedures in place to safeguard students and to optimise educational progress is essential in relation to supplying the best service to our schools and ultimately to learners.

“Supplying teachers to schools is a responsibility we take very seriously and ensuring that the staff we supply have been through a robust checks is an integral part of our business model. “

Founded in 2006, Apollo Teaching Services Ltd, currently supplies over 3000 staff to schools across Wales. In addition it supplies teachers and educational staff across the UK with offices across Wales, Newcastle and Bristol.

Lee Powell, Co- director of Apollo Training Services said, “As a company one of our core obligations is to ensure we continually develop and improve on our procedures and policies to ensure our background checks continue to meet and exceed the current requirements. This commitment was identified as a key area of excellence in our recent award.

“Providing high standards of training for our teachers through a fully comprehensive continuous professional development programme is also part of our core ethos.  We believe that our strategy for on-going improvement is one of the key areas where we are able to add value to our schools.”

Faith Olding adds, “The recent Estyn Report highlighted concerns regarding cover arrangements in schools. As a company we believe that cover arrangements can be one of the most difficult elements for schools to manage.

“By employing highly motivated, committed and experienced staff, maintaining strong partnerships with head teachers and ensuring that our procedures adhere to strict standards we hope to mitigate against the issues surrounding the supply of cover teachers as much as possible This award is a resounding endorsement of our business ethos.”

The company is also celebrating its recent success in achieving its Investors in People Bronze Award at the first attempt placing it at the leading edge of the best people management practice in the UK demonstrating Apollo’s on-going commitment to investing in its staff.

REC chief executive Kevin Green added: “Congratulations to Apollo Teaching Services for achieving the gold standard in recruitment. They join an elite group of agencies across the UK who have been recognised for operating the very best practice in education recruitment.

“The aim of our scheme is to give headteachers peace of mind that they are working with an accredited supplier. By earning the right to display the REC Audited Education logo, Apollo Teaching Services can assure schools, parents and pupils that the staff they supply are recruited properly and have on-going support.”
